You can love people whose values are different than yours. Too often, we are quick to judge others because they disagree politically or otherwise. We’re all on a different path and born into unique circumstances. Many core beliefs developed in childhood are difficult to unlearn.

Every life decision should reflect your values somehow. However, you can’t expect the actions and opinions of others to mirror your own. Each individual has their own set of values, but that doesn’t make them wrong. We are bonded by humanity and far more connected than we realize. As Ram Dass wrote: “The soul teaches us that the root of fear is separateness. If we want to be free, we have to overcome separateness.”

Paradoxically, we’re all the same in that we all share one trait: uniqueness. Next time you meet someone, set your judgments aside and remember that an open mind always wins out.
